Rush: The Left is going hard after Romney's religion because he scares them

We at Mitt Rocks have been waiting for Rush to mention Mitt. And now he has...and did so in a very good and positive way.

You will notice that Rush explains that the Left wants to destroy every conservative out there. For Rush to call someone a conservative, he must be a conservative!

RUSH: Let me explain the difference in this Mitt Romney business and the way Democrats are treated in this regard. Ted Kennedy's father -- we're not talking about a great-grandfather or great-great grandfather; we're talking about father. Ted Kennedy's father was a Third Reich sympathizer. Franklin Delano Roosevelt had to pull him as ambassador of the Court of Saint James. (For those of you in Rio Linda, that's Great Britain.) He had to pull him out of there because he was a sympathizer to the Third Reich. Now, we don't hold this against Teddy. Teddy had nothing to do with that. Just as we don't hold Mitt Romney's grandfather, or great-grandfather, against him. But the lib media, the Drive-Bys, are definitely trying to do that. You take a look at who the media really goes after and you've gotta wonder whether there's fear there, fear driving it. Well, they just want to destroy every conservative they can. It's just part and parcel of the agenda that exists.

Rush also points out that Sen. Obama's father was a bigamist! Let us remember that fact next time the media wants the sins of the fathers answered upon the heads of the children.

Gore won't be inconvenienced

Al Gore won't be inconvenienced by global warming. According to a recent article, the Academy award-winning Gore consumes 20 times the energy of the average American household.

Nashville Electric Services records show the Gores in 2006 averaged a monthly electricity bill of $1,359 for using 18,414 kilowatt-hours, and $1,461 per month for using 16,200 kilowatt-hours in 2005. During that time, Nashville Gas Company billed the family an average of $536 a month for the main house and $544 for the pool house in 2006, and $640 for the main house and $525 for the pool house in 2005. That averages out to be $29,268 in gas and electric bills for the Gores in 2006, 31,512 in 2005
We are left with only two conclusions:

1. Al Gore does not really believe global climate change is caused by humans

or

2. Al Gore considers himself superior to the rest of humanity and somehow deserves to use in excess...while the rest of us conserve.

Offer to Dems: We'll trade McCain for Lieberman!

Lately, there has been speculation that Sen. Lieberman will become a Republican if the Democrats cut off war funding. In the spirit of fairness, MittRocks would like to propose a trade. We'll give you McCain for the good senator! After all, McCain has already proven to be an effective critic of the GOP. He has scored huge points with the media at the expense of the conservative movement. And Lieberman? He has scored points with conservatives because of his unfailing support of the troops and their mission.

McCain's latest criticism? Was it posed against a Democrat? Well, read for yourself.

Is Rummy running for anything? Donald has already been removed from his post, so what does McCain hope to accomplish by throwing darts at him? Who is McCain trying to score points with?

Does John McCain understand that an attack on the former secretary will only give the President a black-eye along with whole Republican party? Does he care?

What he is actually doing is shooting himself in the foot! That is...unless we make the trade!

Romney, on the other hand, has kept his criticism directed at the adversaries of the GOP. Here is his latest:
"Governor Mark Sanford is right. Unfortunately, some in the Republican Party are embracing the radical environmental ideas of the liberal left. As governor, I found that thoughtful environmentalism need not be anti-growth and anti-jobs. But Kyoto-style sweeping mandates, imposed unilaterally in the United States, would kill jobs, depress growth and shift manufacturing to the dirtiest developing nations.

"Republicans should never abandon pro-growth conservative principles in an effort to embrace the ideas of Al Gore. Instead of sweeping mandates, we must use America's power of innovation to develop alternative sources of energy and new technologies that use energy more efficiently."
While Romney takes on Clinton, Gore, and Obama...McCain takes on Rumsfeld and Cheney.

If the republicans want to take the White House in '08 and pick up house and senate seats, they will need a leader who unites conservatives. After all, a house divided cannot stand!

Ouch...Wikipedia is out to get Rudy!

What is a RINO? Well, according to Wikipedia it is synonymous with Giuliani. In fact, his picture is right there!

Do you really think that the Republicans will give it to a RINO? Republican In Name Only? My friends, we now have a two horse race: Romney vs. McCain. And if you will look closely at McCain...you will notice a slight bump on the Senator's nose!

The Rominator

Okay, so the governator (Arnold) has started looking more and more like a RINO...but imagine the star power of a Romney/Schwarzenegger ticket! They both are outsiders to Washington...and both have got a lot done as govs in their respective states.

Does the constitution allow for a Veep that is not born in the US?

Note: MittRocks has no info that would imply that Mitt would choose Arnold as a running mate...but we just wanted to throw it out there.

Actually, the idea first came from an anonymous comment. It read:

The ticket that would be irresistable to the celebrity seduced American people during a time of war? ROMNEY/SCHWARZENEGGAR. What a show of moral (Romney) and physical (Schwarzie) strength. Arnold brings in the west coast, star power, and the Kennedy family charisma. Romney actually has the skills to run the country. Besides, Arnold might benefit from a little religion. What do you think? Comments? Complaints? Doubts?
Mitt rocks will say at least this: it is an entertaining thought...

Romney getting endorsed!

Mitt has friends in high places! On top of the list should be the big one Jeb Bush...but we'll save that one for later.

Mitt: We are all Children of our Father in Heaven!

Please excuse the religious tone of this next post but I just have to give a standing-O to the Governor for not being ashamed of one of the core beliefs of Mormonism and many other faiths - that we are all children of a Father in Heaven.

Mitt Romney: Well, I think religion is a separate sphere in terms of a particular brand of faith, but I think the principles of all faiths have, as their foundation, the idea that there is a supreme being, that this supreme being is a heavenly father, and that all the people in our country and in all countries are sons and daughters of the same supreme being.

I think we are, if you will, one family of humanity. That informs very dramatically my sense of what our relationship should be in the world, our need to care for the very poor and the diseased and the brutalized, our need in this country to provide opportunities for all of our citizens.

That fundamental belief that we are all brothers and sisters has an enormous impact, I think, on a lot of what we do. (link to article)

What Mitt is saying is that it is his fundamental belief that we are all brothers and sisters.

In the midst of political backstabbing, wars, rumors of wars, this kind of doctrine is like a glass of cool water. I have all the more respect for Gov. Romney for speaking to his beliefs...and doing so in a way that unites people of all faiths. If there is a God in Heaven, He must be pleased by Romney's declaration that we are all His children.

There are those who would want to divide people of faith because of their fixation on the differences of theology. I would like to recommend the following video.

As the days pass, I think that we will get a clearer view of the character of all the candidates for president. I am sure that as we get to know Mitt we will like what we see and hear.

Interview with George Stephanopoulos

Mitt and Ann did a great job on the interview this morning. Here are my thoughts:

Steph was really going at the Mormon thing pretty hard. Did it ever cross his mind that delving into such detail not only reveals little about Mitt's capabilities as our next president, but it is also in poor taste. I can't imagine Joe Lieberman being questioned for 1/3 of a long interview about Judaism. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying religious questions should be off limits, I'm just saying that Mitt has sufficiently addressed his religion in the past and that it shouldn't be the main topic of a political talk show interview. If I were interviewing someone of another faith, I would feel awkward trying to "corner" them on specific (again, inconsequential) doctrines and practices. That being said, I do hope that Mitt gives a JFK-like address to a faith-based group so that he can move on to more pertinent issues.

As Mitt and I have both said before, if someone would like additional information on the church, they should contact the church. He is not a church spokesman and not the definitive source for doctrine, history, and teachings of the church.

Another interesting thing I noticed was how silly Steph looked by attempting to trap Mitt with information on his voting for Tsongas in '92. Anyone knows that really hard-core political junkies register independent so they have the option of voting for a weak candidate in the opposing party. This is exactly what Mitt did. Had more folks done this, '92 would have been Bush I vs. Tsongas, and Bush I may have had better chances than he did with Clinton.

Finally, with all the detailed research Steph and all the ABC folks put into Mitt's life, it would have been REALLY tough to miss out on the fact that Mitt has a Harvard MBA (which Steph mentioned more than once) AND a Harvard Law degree. A law degree normally takes 3 years and generally requires even higher undergraduate academic credentials than an MBA, which takes 2 years. Mitt was admitted into a special joint degree at Harvard that allowed him to earn BOTH degrees in just 4 years.

Why was Mitt's law degree left out? Was it an honest oversight or did the ABC folks purposely not mention it? Is the law degree considered more prestigious? And if so, perhaps it would be better to "forget" to mention the law degree than the MBA. (Assuming, of course, that not mentioning either would be a bit ridiculous.)

Anyway, looking back at the entire interview, Mitt and Ann did a wonderful job. They came off as the good, smart, charismatic, and genuine people they are - despite an attempted grilling by the Bill Clinton's former right-hand man.

States of Grace

Listening to this NPR broadcast last night, I was surprised to hear Rev. Robert Schenck (President of Faith and Action, President of the National Clergy Council and Minister in the Evangelical Church Alliance) note that about half of his Evangelical friends still have a problem with Romney because of his religion. Aside from the fact that Mitt will be our President, not our Pastor, I believe that most people's concerns with Mormonism could be mitigated by an honest examination of the Mormon faith and its adherents. There are many ways this can be done, starting here and here, but another option, suggested by Mark, is to check out the movie States of Grace. I haven't seen it yet, but I am a big Richard Dutcher fan and I'm sure it's a great movie.

See the trailer here and the first 11 minutes of the movie here.

Mark's post:

Quote:
First of all, as a traditional Baptist, I was stunned after viewing a movie called "States of Grace." A friend of mine from Utah sent it to me for Christmas. In spite of everything I have come to learn about Mormonism, here is a movie – a Mormon movie nonetheless – that demonstrates a deep understanding of -- and longing for -- unconditional grace and forgiveness through a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In my opinion, it movingly depicts the power of God's healing love and redemptive grace that comes after a fall and repentance. It not only shows the heart of Christianity, but it convincingly challenges the stereotypes that many of us traditional Christians have of Mormons and their belief in only conditional grace.

Second of all, I love my country and the constitution it was founded upon. The only person I believe will stand up for those beliefs is Mitt Romney – a.k.a. The “Mormon Candidate.” I will say that it would have been hard to pull the lever for a Mormon until I had a few questions cleared up for me. I believe this movie can be a landmark film in presenting a view of the Mormon church and Mormon life that has never before made it to the big screen – answering simple questions such as polygamy (by far the funniest scene in the movie), interfaith relationships and Mormon beliefs concerning grace.

Many, and I do mean many, of the Mormon beliefs and doctrines I disagree with, but I don’t want a country ran by Pres. Clinton II, Obama, McCain or even Giuliani. I believe Gov. Romney is a Christian who shares my most important values. Now more than ever, we Christians need to pull together and I believe States of Grace can be that elusive element that brings us together. The movie is extremely thought-provoking and very educational for many in America who don’t know much beyond popular rumor about the faith of the man who just might be the next president. In short, this little film has the potential to actually shift and mold public opinion in a presidential campaign without being a political hatchet job like Fahrenheit 911. It should be required viewing for the entire Christian community.

My question is this – With all the stereotypes and misinformation out there about his beliefs, why hasn't anyone put this movie out there to help him? I would have to say I have never felt closer to Mormonism, and Christ's message of love, redemption, and hope, than after viewing States of Grace. You have a tool to answer the questions that would help me pull the lever for Gov. Romney, and you’re not using it. I emailed “Evangelicals for Mitt” and they’ve never heard of the movie. I emailed a website called MittRunMitt.org and they dismissed me. I found more information on this movie at www.StatesofGrace.net

I hope you care enough to do something about this – or I’ll find a way to do it myself. I can't believe that a Baptist has to push a Mormon movie, but if thats what it takes, then that is what it takes. I just need help.

Your Brother in Christ,

Mark L.

p.s. I Googled “Mitt Romney supporters” and found your website. I hope you have some sway with the powers-that-be in Salt Lake City because I couldn’t even find “States of Grace” at Wal-Mart – and they carry everything.

The difference between blue staters and red staters

I couldn't resist posting a link to a brilliant article written by stalwart Mitt supporter Nancy French:

Quotes:
Shopping at Wal-Mart isn't about making the world a better place, because that isn't what shopping is for.

Liberals believe evangelicals lack moral gravitas because we don't attach our beliefs to our purchases like an overpriced service plan.

According to Syracuse University's study, "Religious Faith and Charitable Giving," people who attend religious services regularly are 38 percent more likely to identify themselves as conservatives. They are also 25 percent more likely to donate money than those who don't (91 percent to 66 percent)—and this isn't just giving in the collection plate: the religious are more generous with nonreligious causes as well. They are also 23 percent more likely to volunteer time (67 percent to 44 percent).

Don't just read the quotes above, you HAVE to read this whole article. It's so good, and it's writer so insightful, that I'll vote for whoever Nancy's voting for. Luckily, that happens to be Mitt!

Liberal Media Bias 54x

From NewsBusters.org

Quote:
At CBS, Romney Is No Obama As Network Devotes 54 Times As Much Time To The Democrat

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney formally announced today that he would seek the Republican nomination for President, but one would hardly know this from watching CBS’s "Early Show." Romney’s candidacy received exactly ten seconds worth of coverage, following stories on a Utah mall shooting, winter storms, and the ongoing soap opera of Anna Nicole Smith’s demise. However, on Saturday, when Illinois Senator Barack Obama announced his candidacy as a Democrat, CBS’s "Saturday Early Show" devoted 9 minutes and 9 seconds, (549 seconds) to this story, a greater than 54:1 bias.

More ridiculousness regarding the National Jewish Democratic Council's Ford "Controversy"

More ridiculousness regarding the National Jewish Democratic Council's Ford "Controversy"...

I was reading a magazine (Good) and ran across a graphic that illustrated the various donations made by the largest charities. One of these, the Ford Foundation made its largest donation to date, some 20 million dollars, to the New Israel Fund.

Wow! I was shocked. How could the supposedly anti-Semitic Ford family be giving to a fund that is making a major contribution to the Jewish community? Apparently, the Ford Foundation has a long history of supporting Israel.

Quote:
The grant builds on the Ford Foundation’s long-term commitment to funding in Israel. With total spending of more than $50 million since 1948, Ford has supported the advancement of science and technical research, civil and human rights, social justice, Arab-Israeli relations, and regional conflict resolution efforts.

But wait, before we go forward, we better check if we are talking about the same Ford. It's not a completely uncommon name after all. So, a visit to the Ford Foundation website revealed this...

Quote:
After the deaths of Edsel Ford in 1943 and Henry Ford in 1947, it became clear that the non-voting stock of the Ford Motor Company they bequeathed to the Ford Foundation would create the largest philanthropy in the world. In response, the foundation’s board of trustees, led by the chairman, Henry Ford II, commissioned studies to chart the institution’s future.

So it IS the Ford family who has supported Israel so significantly.

I must admit that I am completely shocked and baffled by this whole story. I've heard of some pretty lame PR stunts before, but none rise to the idiocy of this one. Here is what I would expect to happen now(but don't count on it):

1. The NJDC should issue an apology to Mitt's campaign and, more importantly, The Henry Ford and the Ford Foundation.
2. Mitt's campaign should do a press release on this information.
3. The idiot that suggested Mitt should have held his speech in Edison's Laboratory (which is situated within the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village complex), should eat her words.
4. The Ford Foundation and The Henry Ford should ask to the NJDC to apologize for the press release.
5. The main stream media should pick this story up (fat chance).

I just wish people and organizations would be more responsible and thoughtful about what they say.

Finally, I have to post what Winged Hussar 1683 said regarding the post from a couple days ago...

Quote:
As shown by its participation in the attempted whitewash of the hate speech at MoveOn.org's disgraced Action Forum, the National Jewish Democratic Council's opposition to anti-Semitism ends where the left wing of the Democratic Party begins.

NJDC implies Romney is anti-Semitic for giving a speech at the museum of a dead EX-anti-Semite (i.e. one who repudiated and retracted his anti-Semitic publications) while giving Barack Obama a pass for appearing at MoveOn.org, whose Action Forum was populated by living and rabid anti-Semites who posted an actual blood libel of Jews while calling for the removal of all "Israel-obsessed Jews" from Congress. The MoveOn bigots also posted anti-Catholic, anti-Evangelical, and even racist hate speech with the full knowledge of MoveOn.org's moderators.

Again, NJDC did its best to whitewash its allies at MoveOn.org over this issue. It has nothing to say about Henry Ford or Mitt Romney that any decent American ought to trust or respect.
Oh yes--it was Henry Ford's industrial methods that delivered the endless stream of weapons that led to Hitler's 9-millimeter-and-cyanide honeymoon with Eva Braun in 1945.

Religion not as important as divorce or age

Again, to address the old question: Would America elect a Mormon president? Here is a nifty poll that shows that compared to an old guy...or a divorced man...America would prefer the Mormon.

And get this: A USA Today poll released Wednesday shows that 24 percent of Americans would not vote for a Mormon (Romney), 30 percent would not vote for someone who has been married three times (Giuliani) and more than 40 percent would not vote for a “generally well-qualified person” for president who was 72 years old (McCain’s age by Election Day 2008).

Jewish democrat group's baseless attack on Romney

From the article: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070212/ap_on_el_pr/on_the2008_trail_21 We read that Romney's choice the announce his candidacy from the the famous Henry Ford Museum is unacceptable because Henry Ford was an anti-semite. Here is my response to the story:

Your attack on Mitt Romney's choice to make his presidential announcement from the Ford Museum is completely unfair and blatantly partisan.

As a former Michigander and one familiar with the auto industry, I find your assertions toward Mitt stunningly inappropriate. I worked for General Motors, so I'm no Ford apologist, but Ford's misguided political beliefs have absolutely nothing to do with the Ford Museum. Have you ever been to the museum? The museum is NOT about Henry Ford himself. But it is, quite simply, the greatest historical collection of American industry and technology ever assembled. It is operated by a "The Henry Ford", an independent, not-for-profit organization.

Mitt's decision to announce from this landmark is ideal, given his focus on strengthening our economy and America's ability to compete on an international scale.

Please, if you have a problem with a candidate in the future, make your argruments substantive and relevant.

You owe Mitt and his campaign an apology.

Utah Newspapers Weigh-in With Mitt

The Salt Lake Tribune writes an article titled, Grasping Mitt. I have a hard time "grasping" the intent of this article. I am unable to tell if this is an attempted critique of Mitt, or a press release on Mitt's history.

The Deseret News writes a "feel good" article on how Mitt's religious dynamic is relating to his 2008 presidential candidacy. Read, "Romney Tackling Issue of His Religion Head-on."

I am excited for local and national newspapers to begin reporting on more solid topics, such as:
  • Mitt's knowledge, skills and abilities to handle to war on Iraq.
  • Mitt's qualifications and ability to handle the nation's teletic economical needs.
  • Mitt's ability to surround issues with the right leadership.
  • Not just pointing out peculiarities/differences of Mitt's Mormon faith, rather, studying how his faith will play a healthy factor in esteeming humanity throughout the world.

If this guy doesn't end up our next president, something's wrong with America

Check out Mitt's speech at the Michigan GOP convention...

"Something unique about his composure, his deportment, his confidence, his optimism, his delivery."

Well-written thoughts on why Romney rocks!

http://perishthethought.blogdrive.com/archive/327.html

QUOTES:

He is genuine. He doesn't hedge his message with hyperbole. He is substantive, informed, aware of issues that face our nation, domestically and globally. No one denies his intelligence or expertise. He's smart. And he communicates that "smartness" with ease -- and just as importantly -- without condescension.

Mitt Romney offers a refreshingly candid and contrasting image. His countenance is that of an organizer, a designer, an administrator, an executive, a leader.

The campaign is early .... Not all America knows Mitt Romney or his vision. But once America meets Mitt Romney, I contend that he will be elected the next President of the United States. And he won't be elected as a vote against his probable opponent.

Home-State advantage

This Tuesday, Mitt Romney will formally announce his run for the White House in '08. He will do so in his "home state" of Michigan. And it just hit me that Mitt really has three home-States! Michigan, Massachusetts, and Utah.
I believe this is all the more reason Mitt's candidacy should be taken seriously. After all, most candidates only get one state to call home.

So let's tally the electoral votes.

Mitt Romney: Utah, Michigan, Massachusetts 5+17+12 = 24
John McCain: Arizona (if he can get them) 10
Rudy Giuliani: New York 31

Of the three, I think that Romney has the best chances to secure these electoral votes. New York rarely votes Republican in a presidential election. The same can be said of Massachusetts...except Romney has been elected there himself...and it should increase his odds. McCain does not poll well for a presidential election in Arizona. So I view Romney the leader in the chase for electoral votes based on the "home-State advantage".

Is Romney Different?

By David M. McEntire

Public administration theorist Paul Appleby attempts to describe how government is different than business. He succeeds on many points. However, I disagree with Appleby as he submits few business executives are fit for public service.

Appleby writes:

"In my judgment no on can serve the public as it should be served by a government official unless he has a public-interest...Even possessed of patriotism and zeal, the most capable business executive in the country might be a most dismal failure in government."

Appleby continues, "It is instructive to observe that big businessmen who have inherited large business interest seem, on the average, to be better bets for government service than those of the self-made variety."

Appleby later concedes, "Politicians inevitable rub up against more considerations; they tend to be more broadly stimulated. Thus any man of political inclinations who has had organizational en executive experience would be a superior prospect for success as a public official for the reason that he would, almost inevitable, have developed breadth of view and a public-interest attitude" (Government is Different, Big Democracy; 1945).

I respectfully submit that Mitt Romney is an excellent candidate for presidency because his "different" business and public knowledge, skills, and abilities qualify him.

Your thoughts?

LA Times Story

Story on Mitt in the LA Times. Note the comments by Mitt's son Tagg toward the end of the article (on page 2)...

Romney needs a Newt...

Hello?

Is there anyone out there?

Anyone with the Gov's ear?

Romney ought to be taking Newt to breakfast, lunch, and dinner! An endorsement from Gingrich would be a huge boost to Romney. Sharing the ticket with him might be PURE GOLD.

If you know Mitt...would you pass this advice along?
